Olivia and Ben

There are many reasons why I am not a nature photographer. For one, I'm not a big fan of wild animals. Being in the perfect place at the perfect time (usually the crack of Dawn) just isn't my thing. Mostly though, it just doesn't call to me. Sure, I can admire my nature photography friends work, and really appreciate the work they put into capturing the majesty of the wild in one frame. But for me, people are what I love. Finding a person's story and getting a snap shot, showing the world a bit about them is my passion. Relationships between people; couples, families, friends... Creating a visual story of that bond that fully captures that connection in just a moment... That is my bliss. To be honest, Olivia and Ben made that easy for me! We met at Cline Cellars, a winery in Sonoma, and Ben and Olivia got to share a bottle of wine together while they showed me around and we got to know each other! Seriously, I think all my engagement shoots should involve a bottle of wine from now on!

Erin and Ty – Engaged!

I am so excited about Erin and Ty getting married! They are such amazing people! To see them together, on the brink of all their future adventures together is something really, truly special. Together we walked around the land in the country that Erin grew up on, met her adorable pet pig, and saw the place in their front lawn that she and Ty will be exchanging vows this fall!

Tyson and Mia – Engaged!

I want to tell you all something. There are many photographers who will tell you how much they love taking pictures but hate editing. I totally get that, but I am not one of them. It's not because I do a bunch of fancy stuff to my photos because I don't really do that anyway. I like them to be as pure as possible, so that the image can speak for itself! The reason I love the time I spend at the computer, just as much as behind the lens, is because I have this amazing experience while I watch my images come to life. In the moment that I'm shooting, I'm vaguely aware of what is going on outside of my bubble. (That's why I didn't notice when Mia's cow tried to get in my camera bag on my hip.) I get in the zone, and shoot from the heart. It's a sensational experience in it's own right, but the time I spend pouring over the images at home with my head phones in, I get to fall in love with my subjects in a whole new way. I get to dwell in the image of the love they share with each other, without thinking about the next shot, or the light, or the dialog. I simply re-expiriance the session without any of the distractions, just the two of them and their story, and it's the most rewarding part of what I do. It's exactly why I do what I do.

So who are "they"? Well, for this session, it's Tyson and Mia. I shot them in Mia's back yard, with her pet donkey and cow visiting for a bit in the beginning. I have know Tyson, well... just about all my life. I met Mia in High School and she was quiet and sweet and much more mature than any other 15 year old I knew. Tyson is not quiet, at all, and crazy and animated, and boy can he make Mia laugh! That's basically all we did, I showed up with my camera and as Tyson and Mia caught up on their day Tyson made her laugh constantly. Here's the amazing part; Tyson and Mia have been dating for FIVE YEARS. They've done it all, high school sweet hearts, long distance relationship, the whole nine yards. They have waited for this for so long. I don't know if I have ever been so happy for two people to finally come together. Their love story is just simply amazing.

Caitlin & Brian – Engaged!

Caitlin and Brian are getting married this summer, and I can not be more excited. This couple is so beautiful and down to earth and so much fun! Sophia and Tyler, their kids, are such a riot! Tyler was making me laugh the whole time, and Sophia was so stinking cute! I could photograph the way her hair glimmers in the sun all day long. The best part of this family, though, is how they love each other so, so much. I'm so glad I got to spend an evening with them and my camera, and I can not wait to see what they plan for their big day!

Veronica + Greg = Engaged!

I am so excited about Veronica and Greg's wedding! It has been so much fun getting to know them as they come closer to their big day. Their engagement session was such crazy adventure! We found so many fun places to shoot on our not-so-little walk around Davis. I couldn't pick a favorite site if I tried, but I love that Greg brought his chairs that his grandfather made to use as props. Such an amazing symbol to include while marking the beginning of a long and happy life together.

Brittany & Jeff Walk Into a Bar

Happy Valentines Day! I'm so excited to share this fabulous engagement shoot with you on the day of Looovvee. Brittany and Jeff knew that they wanted a unique engagement shoot to represent their unique personalities, so we started at an old school bar that Jeff's band had played at called the The Club Car. It is such an amazing place! Afterwards we strolled through downtown Auburn and found a record store. Brittany has been dying to get herself some vinyl, so it was win/win! Finally, this couple took me on a death defying hike, and crossed the highest old bridge over a river. Have I mentioned I'm terrified of heights? Yeah. I am. In the end it was a fantastic time photographing two awesome people who are so much in love! Which is the best part of the entire day!
